The
wind didn’t stop the crowd enjoying the diverse entertainment
at the 2007 Festival of the Wind. Over two nights and a day, locals and visitors
to Esperance, celebrated the fifth Festival of the Wind.
Fantisea, Simply Fantastic
There were 3000 jostling to see FantiSea, the amazing production of giant multi-operated spectacle puppets by Esperance Theatre Guild.
Ziggy the Leafy Sea Dragon, Cuthbert Cut-Throat Eeel, Donny Dolphin, Clarice the Crab, Angel Fish, Dame Agatha the Octopus and Lurk the Shark were enchanting. View photos in 2007 Highlights Gallery.
Fantastic Community Support for Entertainment
The live music at the Festival drew audiences of 2000. Visiting performers Vika and Linda Bull, Veeva Feeva, Balvinder Singh and local entertainers the Esperance Senior High Jazz Band and Daniel Seinor gave inspiring performances.
Dragon Boat Regatta a resounding success
The innuagural Esperance Bay Dragon Boat regatta, proved a big hit with local punters. A group of friends called Local Mocean won the Open Division, and each received trophies hand crafted by John Crawley. Western Australian Dragon Boating Association was impressed with the size of the field (22 teams) and the level of support (1000 spectators). View photos in Highlights Gallery
Community Art Unleashed
'Art Unleashed' set a new benchmark in creativity with 11 local artists creating amazing and outrageous designs. Esperance Community Arts acknowledged its arts heroes with the Arts Awards with Thelma Daniels winning the Martyred Mannekin Award.
The 'Grab Ya Board' Surf Art Exhibition proved to be the biggest exhibition opening yet at the Cannery Arts Centre, with artists, families and surf-minded groupies turning out for surf-inspired art.
The Festival Venue was abuzz in the afternoon with arts and crafts at the Walk Up Workshops; Anne Henderson taught cartooning, Cecile Williams used local grasses for fibre weaving, and Matthew Landers was a magical with his floral art. The Arts Mart was brimming with 33 local artists showing and selling their art and craft to visitors.
Taking the Plunge
Another level of interest at the 2007 Festival of the Wind was added with LEAF’s lecture on 'Improving the Comfort Levels of Your Home' by Neville Peterkin, the Morning Plunge and Martine De Lacey’s Yoga sesion at the Port Authority Beach.
Kids Activities
Fingerlings took a while to find Neptune’s Cave at Adventureland Park but it was soon a sea of bodies making fish key rings, CD mobiles, water-wash bags, bubble fish and maracas. The adjacent GMP bungee tramp had jumpers waiting up to three hours for their chance at being airborne.
